For those of you who are not yet familiar with the cactus like plant, it has been used by tribes in South Africa for generations to stave off hunger. The tribes men would suck or gnaw on the plant during long hunting trips. By doing so, they would not feel hunger pangs or thirst. While there are about a dozen species of the plant, Hoodia Gordonii is the only version known to stave off hunger.
The xian zhi su plant naturally produces a molecule called P57. It is believed that this molecule is responsible for the suppression of both appetite and thirst when ingested. The plant is currently being studied around the world for it's possible effectiveness as an all natural appetite suppressant.
